i'm gonna throw this into the pot
it's not that they are speaking another language, it's the accents....it's a non-american accent and it's common that some people just simply don't have the ear for anything other than what they are used to hearing
eeerrrmmmmm i remember 'translating' a couple times for you here dave *L*...and they were speaking english

Ahhhh yes I get it now, it was ENglish but in a different form than what you are used to. Well, you see, even non state born citizens can have a job too and unfortunately, sometimes those jobs are ones that require them to work with the public.
It's no different than when I drive two hours west and people laugh at me and tell me to say certain words over and over...cuz of my thick scandanavian accent...
ya shure...you betcha....

Im gonna go with Dave on this..i know immigrants need jobs too..im not against that at all..but i do think spanish speaking..pakistani speaking, chinese speaking all those need to learn basic sentance structure..i have one guy from my CC co whos calls and this is what he says
Meechelle Smidley..i say yes this is michele smedley..ah mrs smidley i ackmed i wan offar a deal...i say ok...yes i wan offa a deal maam..i said..OK..maam i wan offa a deal to you..YES WHAT IS IT..by then im pissed..then he launches into something i cannot understand becuase he talks broken english very quickly so i stop him many times to ask him to repeat it..he just talks over me as if i never said a word..i end up hanging up..*sighs*..this isnt the only one i get..If the people hiring them would make certain they can be understood and they know how to use some semblance of sentances americans can understand..things would be fine by me! but if i cant make out their words how can i be expected to purchase anything or discuss my account with them..i have spoken to many people all over the world but the ones i usually speak with can string enough words togather to make it understandable..these people cant..if they are going to be put into a postion to call me ..they damn sure better be able to make themselves understood in some way.. Oohh..and im not talking about accents..im talking about being able to speak english..plain english..not broken words here and there..the one that gets me is the ones who dont ever have to ask you to repeat yourself..but you have to ask them to repeat it 5 times before you can make out most of it..im good with accents..but i need some basic words to understand what they want.. well ....other languages use verb tenses and forms in a different structure...and most of their languages are more similar than ours...so perhaps they might say...that we are on the outside looking in....
but perhaps.... i could be wrong too! !!!!!!
